Through the Better Internet for Kids (BIK) agenda, the European Commission (EC), Safer Internet Centres (SICs) and other stakeholders work with teachers, educators and other professionals around Europe to enable them to equip children and young people with the digital and media literacy skills needed to use the digital environment in a responsible, respectful, critical and creative way. Danish focus on 0–6-year-olds' use of digital media

In May 2022, the Danish awareness centre, The Media Council for Children and Young People, launched 'The First Digital Steps': a national initiative on 0–6-year-olds and digital media. The project remains relevant in the Danish context.

Analogue and digital go hand in hand

In Denmark there is a strong focus on strengthening digital literacy among children and young people. A key player in this work is SSP (School, Social Services and Police), which works in collaboration with municipalities across the country to prevent crime and create a safe analogue and digital environment for young people. The Media Council for Children and Youth and the Centre for Digital Youth Care have often used the SSP network in Denmark in the context of projects that require direct contact with young people. 

Youth Internet Monitor 2024

The Youth Internet Monitor is an initiative of Saferinternet.at and presents current data on the use of social media by young people in Austria. Which social networks are currently popular among young users in Austria? Which networks are most popular among girls? Which are the favourites with boys?

Launch of the Roadshow "ZIGZAGA na NET - Navegar a Cores" for Safer Internet Day 2024

The Safer Internet Day celebrations, which took place from 6 to 8 February in Viseu, Portugal, were marked by the launch of an innovative digital awareness resource: the colouring book "ZIGZAGA na NET - Navegar a Cores". The book was developed with the aim of promoting children's digital literacy and is based on "ZigZaga na Net. Novas aventuras", in turn inspired by the stories of the second season of the ZigZaga podcast.

Ensuring digital well-being for adolescents

In today's rapidly advancing digital age, discussions surrounding digital well-being have become increasingly important, especially when considering its impact on adolescents and young people who are considered digital natives. The concept of digital well-being revolves around understanding and promoting positive mental health outcomes in the context of digital technologies and services that are commonly used by individuals of all ages.
